A little about me...
I am a student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. I attend the Masters of Occupational Therapy where I will graduate May 2018. During my didactic portion of the program I held the positions of Rachel Kay Steven Therapy Center Secretary and Honor Council Representative.
What is Occupational Therapy?
Occupational Therapy (OT) is a form of therapy that provides rehabilitation to patients who are suffering from a physical or mental illness. OTs encourage rehabilitation through the engagement and performance of daily activities that are completed by individuals in their routine.
Why Occupational Therapy?
Just like many people in the health profession, my passion is helping and caring for others. In the 8th grade I job shadowed an OT and I was inspired beyond words. I found such joy in the way OTs use a hollistic approach with their patients. As an OT, you are able to take the time to find out your patients motivations and priroites and focus on those aspects in your treatment sessions. This alone inspired me to pursue this career.
Purpose of this site...
This site serves as a eportfolio created to support my professional development as a student. This is helping me prepare for my advance professional development goals that I must complete while on level II fieldwork.
A professor shared this picture with me during my first semester of OT school. I love sharing this pictures with others. This image alone can hold various meanings to many different people. Stand tall, be different, be proud of how far you've come, be proud of the person you have grown to be.
